HACC-Lancaster Campus celebrates Earth Day

Family fun activities set for April 22

LANCASTER – The Center for Innovative Teaching Excellence at the Lancaster Campus of HACC is hosting its second annual “Lancaster Campus Celebrates Earth Day” event from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 22.
The event will kick-off with a Lancaster Campus Cleanup, part of the “Great PA Cleanup Challenge,” organized by the Alpha Nu Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Volunteers will meet in front of the East Building at 8:30 a.m.
            A stellar line up of guest speakers begins at 10 a.m. with “Fixing a Broken Stream” by Matthew Kofroth of the Lancaster Conservation District; followed by “Nuclear Power at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station” at 11 a.m. by Ryan C. Stiltner, Peach Bottom design engineer; “Saving Nemo – Clown Fish/Aquaculturing” at noon by Huey Huynh, adjunct biology instructor; and “Edible Lawns – Permaculture” at 1 p.m. by Wilson Alvarez, Homegrown Edible Landscaping CompanyIn addition, Brad Bashore will guide a nature walk from 11 a.m.-noon to point out edible plants on the Lancaster Campus.
The Lancaster Campus Celebrates Earth Day event is an environmentally educational experience for the whole family. Local environmental nonprofits and businesses will be on hand with a wealth of information, products, and ideas to “Go Green.” Light refreshments will be provided. The event is free, and no advance registration is required.
