Students at HACC host Battle of the Bands

Local bands compete for studio recording time and song demo

HARRISBURG – After auditioning for a spot, eight bands will compete in HACC’s first Battle of the Bands 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3.
The public is invited to the event which will be held in the Cooper Student Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, One HACC Drive.
Genesis Bordner, vice-president of the HACC Students of Wildwood Activities Team (SWAT), organized the event, selecting local bands to compete for a first prize of studio time with a professional audio engineer to cut a three- to five-song demo CD. The following bands will perform for the audience and a panel of three professional musicians:
  • Yesterday is Waiting
  • Tomato Face
  • Close to Consideration
  • LaFours
  • Poubelle Enfermo
  • Faris and the Wheels
  • The Grim Wilderness
  • Innavibe
“The idea of a band contest came from a student survey earlier in the semester,” said Bordner. “We wanted to bring an event to the campus that will grab student attention and encourages local people of any age to come enjoy the show. The bands are excited to compete – it’s a great opportunity to bring the local music culture to HACC.”
Tickets at the door are $5 general admission, $3 for students. Between sets spectators can purchase items from student vendors as well as other local artists and craftsmen. Concession items will also be available. All proceeds from ticket sales and a percentage of vendor profits will be donated to WXPN FM, the non-commercial radio station of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia that broadcasts music of new and significant artists in rock, blues and folk in the Lancaster, York and Harrisburg region.
For more information, contact the SWAT officers at HACC-Harrisburg Campus, 717-780-1159 or send an e-mail to Bordner at swatvp@hacc.edu.
