Danú brings its spirited Celtic holiday celebration to Live at Rose Lehrman

“(Danú) stirs the blood and lifts the heart.” (Irish Music Magazine)

DanuHARRISBURG — Live at Rose Lehrman presents Danú with its stirring and heartwarming Celtic holiday music celebration, “Christmas in Ireland: An Nollaig in Éirinn,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
A pre-show party with tea, scones, shortbread and Celtic holiday shopping from New Cumberland’s Oxford Hall Celtic Shop will begin at 6:30 p.m for ticket holders.
Danú is a masterful group using traditional Celtic instruments – flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion and bouzouki – accompanied by exquisite vocals.
Direct from County Waterford, Danú became a hit in its Ireland homeland because of the group’s authentic and high-energy performances and strong musical talent. For more than a decade, the acclaimed ensemble has performed to audiences around the globe.
Danú’s program features music that pays homage to early Irish traditions such as placing a candle in the window as a symbol of welcome; “The Laden Table,” a Christmas Eve tradition in which families set the table with a loaf of bread with caraway seeds and raisins, a pitcher of milk and a lit candle and leave the door unlatched for wandering travelers; and a procession from house to house on St. Stephen’s Day.
The performance on Dec. 1 also will feature two dancers from the McGinley School of Irish Dance, in Lemoyne.
Support for this Live at Rose Lehrman event comes from Eastern PCM,  the HACC Foundation and Oxford Hall Celtic Shop. Grant funding is provided by The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Media sponsors for the event are WITF-FM and –WHTM-TV abc27
