‘The Artifacts of Journey and Home’ at Fenêtre Gallery

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Fiber artist, Katie Grove, will exhibit “The Artifacts of Journey and Home,” at the Fenêtre Gallery at HACC’s Midtown 2 location, Friday, Jan. 17 through Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. A reception will be held for the artist Friday, Jan. 17, 6-8 p.m., during 3rd in the Burg.

Grove’s printmaking techniques are far from traditional. She combines printmaking processes, such as silkscreen on fabric, monotype and gum-arabic transfers with the textile techniques of knitting, dyeing fabric and hand-sewing to createquilts laden with layers that emerge from a once-flat space. Grove intends her work to be approachable. Through the process of making the pieces in this series she has explored what happens when the contradictory ideas of journey and home occur simultaneously. “For me, there is a great sense of mystery surrounding this subject,” stated Grove. “My goal is for the viewer to experience this same curiosity and sublime feeling while viewing it.”

Grove received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in printmaking at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She teaches workshops on fibers techniques and exhibits throughout the Hudson Valley.  As an artist and educator, Grove focuses on promoting a harmonious and engaging relationship with the land and cultivating a connected local community.

Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2 location at 1500 Third St. The entrance to the building is on Reily Street. The gallery is open on Saturdays from noon-2 p.m. and the third Friday of the month from 6-8 p.m., or by appointment. Visit us on Facebook for additional information.
