HACC students honored with state newspaper awards

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Student journalists from HACC’s Harrisburg and Lancaster campus newspapers, The Fourth Estate and Live Wire, are among college journalists named winners in the annual Student Keystone Press Awards contest.

The Student Keystone Press Awards contest recognizes high school and college journalism that provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers. Any student at any public, private or parochial Pennsylvania high school, college or university who has had his or her material published in the school newspaper may enter the contest, which is provided by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation. Winners will be honored at the Student Keystone Press Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.

“I am so proud of the students producing Live Wire,” said Dana Passek, English instructor and Live Wire advisor at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. “They work very hard, and it is nice to see the staff members receive recognition for their efforts. Live Wire is always looking for new members, and I encourage more students to get involved.”

Trum Simmons, English instructor and advisor to The Fourth Estate, said, “This year's editors have done an excellent job covering important stories and writing strong editorials. They've covered sensitive stories with good judgment and kept the campus well informed.”

Staff members of The Fourth Estate at the Harrisburg Campus and the Live Wire at the Lancaster Campus won 12 awards in the two-year college division. The award winners are listed below.
