Gifts donated to the HACC Foundation during the Extraordinary Give will benefit HACC’s Lancaster Campus Emergency Assistance Fund. Through this fund, current students facing a financial emergency or an unexpected financial burden (excluding tuition-related expenses) may apply to receive extraordinary financial help to continue their education at HACC.
While primarily aimed at helping students continue their studies, these funds have occasionally been life-saving and have assisted a student escape domestic abuse, helped a student whose house was destroyed by fire and provided temporary shelter to a homeless student.
The funds can go a long way for students in need:
- A gift of $250 can cover textbooks or supplies for one course; pay the fees for one or two courses (depending on field of study); purchase scrubs and shoes for nursing clinical; or purchase bus passes for an entire term.
- A gift of $500 can pay for two weeks of emergency childcare; cover the costs of textbooks or supplies for two courses; pay for automotive repairs for a student facing a transportation challenge; or replace a student's program-required uniforms, shoes and supplies destroyed in a fire or flood.
- A gift of $1,000 can change the lives of two students and pay for two weeks of emergency childcare; cover the cost of textbooks or supplies for two courses; cover fees for up to four courses (depending on field of study); pay for automotive repairs for a transportation challenge; or replace program-required uniforms, shoes and supplies destroyed in a fire or flood.
Lancaster County’s 2014 Extraordinary Give raised more than $4.2 million. Funds raised this year will have the opportunity to be increased by support from the Lancaster County Community Foundation, Rodgers & Associates and other corporate sponsors.
