HACC networking event for women entrepreneurs shows the basics of getting started

For women entrepreneurs looking for ways to build their business, HACC’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies has invited business coach Rose Brown to lead the next Women’s Talkabouts networking session, “How to get your foot in the door.”

Brown is the owner of BOUNCE, a networking and educational coaching business with seven locations in central Pennsylvania. She will share her insight during the free, informal networking session noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at HACC’s Penn Center, 349 Wiconisco St. in Harrisburg.

“We’re going to talk about what every business owner should have in their toolbox to establish their business,” said Brown. “It’s a specific system of what they should be saying and who they should be saying it to. I enjoy giving back to the community and hopefully help business owners ‘bounce’ to the next level.”

An entrepreneur for 31 years, Brown encourages business owners to take advantage of services available now that she never dreamed of when she was starting out as a cosmetologist and her first salon. Brown eventually expanded her business to seven salons, selling all of them but one that she still operates today. In 2002, Brown started BOUNCE, an acronym for Business, Opportunities, Unlimited Networking, Coaching, Education.

“If we had then what small business owners have now, like what HACC offers through its Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies, we would be much farther ahead,” said Brown. “It’s exciting for new start-ups to have this kind of guidance.”

Topics for the Talkabouts sessions are organized from group input, said Lisa Steffen, business counselor.

“Rose is a perfect choice for demonstrating how to get your foot in the door,” said Steffen. “She is a good networker and that is a topic of interest the group wants to learn more about.”

The sponsor for the April session is Barbara J. Schreiber, chief idea officer for The Idea Zoo, based in York. Schreiber offers simple business solutions for individuals, teams or groups. For more information go to www.theideazoo.com or call 888-751-2885.

Women business owners interested in attending should call 221-1311 to reserve a seat. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. HACC will provide a dessert and beverage.

The next Women’s Talkabouts is scheduled at noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, with a discussion on how image impacts success, presented by Julie Lichty of York, a business and career coach.

More talkabouts are planned for more locations.

“Look for information on our talkabouts at the York Campus in May and June,” said Steffen. “Also, sessions at our campuses in Lebanon and Lancaster are in the works.”
