‘Painting on the Edge of Town’ Features Landscapes at HACC’s Lancaster Campus
LANCASTER, Pa. – Landscape artist Lou Schellenberg draws inspiration from the places she has called home – Pennsylvania, Maine and Nova Scotia. “Painting on the Edge of Town,” an exhibit showcasing her work, runs Oct. 28-Dec. 10, 2019, in the Art Space gallery at HACC’s Lancaster Campus.

An artist’s reception will be held Nov. 6 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Art Space. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Schellenberg previously taught art at Elizabethtown College and is a founding board member of the Mount Gretna School of Art. Her paintings reflect a love of rural places, changing seasons and our relationship with nature. Schellenberg wrote in her artist’s statement, “Architecture, roads, and spaces in between structures, all contain stories that become apparent through the process of observation. I try to knit the entire experience together focusing on color and shape and content.”

Her work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows in galleries, art centers and museums in the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Canada. Her many awards include a Fellowship from the Massachusetts Artists Foundation in Boston and a first place in the juried exhibition, “Art of the State,” at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

Schellenberg studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and later earned an MFA from the University at Albany in Albany, New York.

Art Space hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
