HACC’s Rose Lehrman Art Gallery to exhibit Student Honors Photography

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Photography students, from the award-winning photography program at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, will display their best work at the annual student photography exhibit from Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus, One HACC Drive.

The free, public exhibit will be open weekdays, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery. Many of the photos are for sale.

All are invited to a free reception with the students from 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013.

Honors show students are invited to submit up to two prints from each of their photography classes. Art faculty jury the work and select nearly 100 photos to hang in the gallery. The collection covers a variety of subject matter, including landscapes, portraits, still lifes, nudes and architecture. Many students now produce their work digitally, but there are still some who produce using film and darkroom development.

Photography professor Garrick Dorsett said, “Being chosen for the show gives students a real sense of accomplishment. It is important for the students to see their work in a professional exhibit next to the work of their peers.”

The HACC photography program consists of a large traditional black and white photo developing lab, fourteen individual color dark rooms, a digital photography classroom and a Photography “Northern Light” Studio with retractable roof.

Since 1988, HACC students have competed in photography competitions with more than 2,000 other colleges and universities and have finished in third place, or above. Students have been nominated for the Pulitzer prize award, have been employed as photographers for local newspapers or have gone on to earn additional degrees at higher education institutions.

Fall gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, or by appointment. For more information, call 717-780-2435 or email Kim Banister, gallery curator, at Visit the gallery on HACC’s website at, under the Rose Lehrman Arts Center, and on Facebook.

The Rose Lehrman Art Gallery receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
