Best Wishes For A Safe Holiday From HACC

HARRISBURG, Pa. – As you scurry to wrap up last-minute preparations for the winter holiday, HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, reminds you that it’s important to stay alert to safety considerations – especially at home.

“If you are searching for a last-minute gift idea for a loved one, consider a new smoke detector. While it may not be the most exciting gift, it may become the most treasured in times of an emergency. The National Fire Protection Association recommends replacing smoke detectors every 10 years, and the beginning of the New Year is great time to check and replace them if needed,” says Perry Pierich, coordinator of HACC’s Fire Science Program.

Pierich notes that December and January are the worst months for home fires associated with Christmas trees and holiday decorations. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):
Make fire prevention and response a priority for you and your families at home, Pierich says. For tips and additional information, please see the NFPA’s guide on winter holiday safety.

The HACC community wishes you and yours a happy – and safe – holiday!
