Steel beam from WTC arrives at HACC’s Public Safety Center
Concrete-encased piece of steel to become memorial to local first responders
HARRISBURG – The Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center at HACC received a special delivery this morning from the Port Authority of New York: a piece of concrete-encased steel from the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center. The approximately 12-by-4-foot beam is from the rubble created by the collapse of the World Trade Center after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The beam eventually will be transformed into a memorial to first responders at the PSC. In this photo, a workman from David H. Martin Excavating Inc. wraps a chain around the beam before it is offloaded near the construction site at the PSC on Industrial Highway next to the Harrisburg Campus.
