HACC offers one-week summer camps focusing on architecture

Area’s rising high school juniors, seniors invited to attend

HARRISBURG – Rising high school juniors and seniors can explore a career in architecture this summer at HACC’s Midtown 2, 1500 N. Third St.
Participants can choose from one or more of the camps, which will meet from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday in room 214 at Midtown 2. The dates are July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27, and July 29-Aug. 3.
Instructor Stephen D. Tucker, a Registered Architect, will lead participants in discovering how architects combine artistic and scientific skills to turn concepts into concrete plans for safe attractive structures.
“The class is designed to give the students a taste of what freshman architectural design class is like,” said Tucker. “The project will involve free-hand drawing, design skills and model building. At the end of the project, we will have a project critique.”
Tucker, who graduated from the University of Cincinnati’s Architecture program, said the project is very similar to one he had to do when he was a freshman in college. Tucker, an adjunct professor of architecture at HACC, teaches Architectural Design, as well as Codes, Specifications and Cost Estimating. He also has a private practice and is a partner in a construction and development firm.
The cost of the Architecture Summer Camp is $99 per student per week. Lunch is up to the student; a Subway is located in Midtown 2.
