HACC's Lebanon Campus to offer tuition-funded Certified Nurse Aide Training Pilot Program

LEBANON, Pa. – The Lebanon Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, will offer a tuition-funded nurse aide training program beginning in May 2013. There is no other such higher education program in Lebanon County. The program is funded by the Francis J. Dixon Foundation.

Information sessions on the new program will be held at HACC’s Lebanon Campus, 735 Cumberland St., on:

  • Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in room 113
  • Thursday, April 18, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. in the lobby

Lebanon County residents interested in signing up for an information session can contact HACC’s Lebanon Campus at 717-270-4222 and select option 0.

While a nurse aide training program is not new to the Lebanon Campus, it will now be tuition-funded for Lebanon County students. The Dixon Foundation will fund the tuition costs of students who successfully complete the program. The Foundation will also fund minor renovations that were made to the John J. Ford Allied Health Lab. This is the lab that will be used for this program. The lab now includes running water and an eye wash station.

The Lebanon Campus nurse aide training program consists of 120 contact hours per course and is approximately three and a half weeks in duration. Each course is limited to 10 students. The student learning experience features instruction in the classroom and laboratory, as well as on location at clinical sites. This approach integrates theoretical and real world instruction.

Within 90 days of completing the nurse aide training program, students whose tuition is funded by the Dixon Foundation must take the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Examination. Historically, more than 84 percent of HACC students pass this exam.

“We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our Lebanon County residents,” said HACC President John J. ‘Ski’Sygielski, Ed.D. “The nurse aide training program will now be more affordable. Our partnership with the Dixon Foundation will provide a pathway for students to a sought-after career –- at no cost to those who successfully complete the program.”
