Find out how HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College can make a difference in your life by attending the Midtown Information Session: Trade & Tech Careers from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Midtown 2 (the former Evangelical Press Building), 1500 N. Third St.
The event will showcase training opportunities in high demand fields, with participants taking tours of the newly renovated building. In addition to trades and tech programs using cutting-edge equipment and top-of-the-line technology, HACC offers general education courses, student and career services, library, computer lab and a cafeteria at this downtown Harrisburg complex.
HACC staff will make presentations on these services as well describe financial aid options, steps toward admission and general education diploma (GED) requirements to get a high school diploma. Students can take two-year associate degree programs or the shorter certificate and diploma programs to meet their career goals.
"The two most important pieces of information I hope that people take away from the information session is that the trades are both rewarding and lucrative career options and that HACC is an excellent place to provide high-quality education at an affordable price," said Christina Wood, Multicultural Recruitment Coordinator at HACC.
Whether you are a dislocated worker, are unemployed or underemployed, or looking to make a career change, HACC's programs of study can translate into your success.
"In the construction field, on-the-job training is not enough anymore -- a balance of classroom training and 'hands-on' knowledge" are essential, says Van Hine, who is in his second year of teaching the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) apprenticeship program. The program recently moved from his classroom at the Harrisburg Campus across from the State Farm Show Complex to the Midtown complex.
Students in school today "have great advancement potential for employees willing to take the time and effort to stay on the cutting edge of their trade. Likewise, companies are always looking for trainable, motivated people who take the initiative. Taking relevant classes in one's free time (and on one's own dime) sends a strong, positive message to employers and potential employers," Van Hine adds.
